Potstickers
We'll start off strong, with a simple and elegant solution for any kitchen with tight storage space for pots and pans. We all know how hard it is to cram so much kitchen-ware in whatever measly cupboards our small apartments have. That space can be expanded two-fold by eliminating the need for storing pot lids.
All this hack requires is getting some standard clothing hangers with an adhesive back, Once you purchase these just stick them onto the inside of the cupboard. Don't forget to measure the size of the pot lids and hang up the hangers so that everything fits as it should, and there you go, a kitchen with more space and less clutter.
Towels Galore
Bathrooms can get so messy, especially in houses with big families and multiple towels for multiple purposes. It gets especially exasperating when no one can seem to hang up their towel properly and everything becomes a big mess on the floor.
That's why investing in a few wide hangers will greatly improve your bathroom's appearance. A few of these for both fresh and used towels will give your bathroom a whole new feel, and require the other occupants of the house to actually put in some effort when putting up their towels.
Bottles and Lots of Them
We all know what it's like to deal with endless clutter around the house. A bunch of bits and bobs, snacks, and snippets of essentials are always underway and floating around. Luckily we have a solution that can kill two birds with one stone.
First of all, all you need is some plastic bottles of all sizes- reduce, reuse, recycle- right? Cut holes into the bottles and hang them up. Then, by placing all of your miscellaneous items in easily reachable, eye-level, home-made storage space, you reduce clutter by about 50 percent, and you never have to look for a mint when you're leaving the house at the last minute.
No More Trashy Cars
Cars can get messy; snacks, toys, baby wipes, tissues, discarded receipts. But no more, because from now on you're going to have a solution to the endless stream of trash that is always entering your car. Simply purchase a handy cereal dispenser and put a trash bag inside of it.
This handy little trick is perfect for moving vehicles because it has a lid, so no more of those flimsy car trash cans that send their contents flying whenever there's a sharp swerve. It's also large enough so that it won't need emptying all the time, because who has the time for that. All in all, this is a must have.
Shoes on a Wall
These days, everyone has a million pairs of shoes. From soccer practice to ballet rehearsal to gardening, gym shoes, and shoes for a night out, there always seem to be some errant shoes lying around and tripping anyone that crosses them. Thankfully, we've got a solution for every foyer that leaves the clutter well outside the living room.
A set of basic clothing hangers placed in the house entrance will solve this problem. When entering the house, simply mandate that all house guests and members hang up their shoes properly. No clutter or mud on the floor, and no more lost shoes minutes before soccer practice starts.
Declutter Your Meals
Sometimes eating all of our fruits and vegetables comes with a price: complete and absolute chaos. Potatoes, zucchinis, carrots, onions, pumpkin, squash. They're delicious! Not to mention, hard to store. That's why you should definitely venture out of the produce section and go to the office supply section to buy a few organizers.
These devices, originally intended for holding papers and binders are large enough to hold all of your produce with room to spare. You can organize by type, or just throw all your fruits and veggies in there in a jumble of color and tastes. Most importantly, you'll find that no matter how messy it looks, the mess doesn't spread to the rest of the kitchen.
Phones in a Drawer
We absolutely hate the spiderweb of charger cords following us around everywhere we go. Our use of electronics doesn't look like it's going to change anytime soon, which only means we'll have to deal with the chaos it ensues ourselves. Luckily, this ingenious trick is way ahead of the game.
Stick an extension plug with outlets in a drawer and organize your charging equipment so that it all fits and every device has its own charging dock. That way nothing gets lost and the cords won't ever get tangled. And the mess of cords won't be an eyesore in your beautiful bedroom anymore.
Hide The Onions
This one is an alternative to our previous produce trick. It's meant for those of us who don't have a bunch of counter space to spare and would much rather keep their clutter out of sight. If you have some good, deep, and wide drawers in your kitchen and pantry, all you need is a few cut crates that fit in the drawer.
Simply sort all of your products into the crates and close the drawer. This simple trick will clear up your kitchen while still keeping all of your essentials within reach. Get ready for some incredibly relaxed and calm dinner-making sessions.
Slinky Organizer
Remember these childhood delights? Watching them slink down the stairs sure was a riot. Even if that's not your favorite mode of entertainment anymore and you've moved on to bigger and better things, this handy little game is still useful.
Bend the slinky and glue the ends together so that you make a circle. Then glue the bottom to a plate or a potholder and start sticking all of your errant lids into the slits. Ta-da!! You've got a creative solution to the age-old challenge of never finding the right lid when you need it. And a nice dose of nostalgia to go along with it!
Bags Bags Bags
Bags can get everywhere. One moment you just grab one extra one from the supermarket and the next the cupboard under the sink is overflowing with millions of plastic bags, threatening to flood your apartment and swallow you whole.
Luckily, a simple, empty tissue box will solve that problem. Simply fold your excess plastic bags into a stack and place them inside the tissue box, grab the first bag's handle, and start pulling. The rest of the bags will stay out of sight and out of mind, as they should!
Snack Rations
It's both tempting and not that aesthetically pleasing to keep a huge box full of bags of snacks and treats. That's why a simple plastic cylinder is exactly what you need to get your snacking habits together.
Simply stick some cardboard strips (made out of deconstructed cereal boxes) to make compartments. Then pour your favorite snacks and you've got yourself a container with some well-rationed snacks.
Spices Galore
Sometimes spices can take up so much space in our cupboards, especially when they're running low. We all have some old mint boxes lying around, so if you do, you can just grab some of those.
Stick a cute label on them and transfer all your spices to the compact, little boxes. Space won't be an issue anymore, not to mention how easy it will be to spice all of your delicious dishes.
Lego Holder
Not sure what to do with all those pesky lego blocks that keep getting underfoot in the middle of the night? Not sure what to do with all of the spoons and ladles that keep getting lost just when you're trying to make soup?
The answer is simple, construct a nice, sturdy structure of leggos and stick all of your long spoons and kitchen equipment. Two birds one stone, anyone?
Magnetic Spices
If the spices in the mint boxes aren't for you, we have a different solution. If you stick magnets on the inside of spice jar lids, they'll stick right on your refrigerator.
This ingenious little trick takes virtually zero effort and doesn't require taking the spices out of their containers and other cumbersome processes that take way too much time. Not only that, putting spices on the fridge will clear out some valuable storage space for other tasty snacks.
Secure Toilet Paper
Life is about the small things, are we right? Sometimes, dropping a roll of toilet paper and watching half of it unravel can be a cherry on top of an already really bad day.
That's why investing a few extra minutes in sealing your toilet paper is truly worth your time. Simply press your toilet paper rolls to an (already damp) sink faucet and produce a homemade seal to your toilet paper. It won't come apart until you want it to.
Designated Towels
Sometimes communal bathrooms can be a mess, whether you're living with flatmates, a significant other, or with a gaggle of kids, we can all lose it sometimes when we get out of the shower and our towel is already wet.
Spare yourself the profound discomfort of wiping down with a wet, cold towel and invest in magnets, stickers or signs that will make it abundantly clear to all house members: keep your towel to yourself.
Organize Your Toiletries
These handy eating utensil organizers aren't just for silverware. Start getting creative about your organizational techniques and turn some classic home-organizing tools into multi-purpose organizers.
Sticking one of these bad boys into your bathroom cabinet will change your life. All of your toiletries will be easily accessible from now on. No more clutter, no more dirt, and overall a much better bathroom experience.
Cutlery Out in the Open
No room in your kitchen drawers for cutlery? No problem! Let your cutlery breathe in the open air of your kitchen and never fumble for a drawer again. No more knives jamming drawers during the dinner rush for us!
Let your kids (or bored roommates) paint a few flower pots and label them accordingly, then organize all of your cutlery in a nice line by the sink or plates. It makes for an Instagram-able kitchen, and perhaps some more peace of mind.
Elevated Spoons
There's no need to waste valuable counter space with hefty containers. Make use of the one thing in life that is (almost) free: air!
By cutting down on countertop space you'll find your kitchen space is much bigger and spacier.
By cutting down on countertop space you'll find your kitchen space is much bigger and spacier.
This is an easy job with a hammer, some nails, and a few hooks. Grab a potholder that you don't need anymore and attach some hooks to it. Hang it to the bottom of a cupboard and start hooking up your largest spoons and spatulas. This is one hack you won't regret.
Fridge Organization
Organizing a fridge full of all housemates' particular and special foods can definitely be a dangerous game. But again, make use of the empty air in your fridge to attach some Tupperware to the door with velcro.
By using this trick, you've both cleared up some fridge space and spared the use of polluting plastic wrap. You'll get bonus points by labeling each container for each residents' unique snacks.
Low-Hanging Fruit
Once again, make use of the marvelous free space provided by air. If you have nowhere to store your small fruits and berries, without putting them in monstrous plastic containers that eat up your fridge space, this trick is for you.
A few durable, small plastic bags, along with a few strong binder clips, is really all you need. Store your fruit in the bags and fasten them to your fridge racks with the binder clips. Simple, easy, and cute!
Meat Market
Meat is hard to store; it takes up huge amounts of space in the freezer, and then when it finally freezes over you can barely tell which meat is which. Make the thawing-up process a little bit easier by creating self-made compartments in your freezer.
Three or four crates or baskets should do the trick for this one. Label them with laminated labels or drawings so that the damp freezer won't ruin them, and never fumble through the fridge again!
Condiment Carriers
Condiments also take up a lot of space. Why not upcycle your old snack containers and better organize your fridge, all at once? An old cookie or cupcake container should be the perfect size for all of your favorite toppings.
This hack has the added bonus of significant upcycling of a product that would normally spend the rest of its days polluting some landfill. Not to mention, no more sticky, congealed ketchup residue on your fridge surfaces. This is what we call a win-win-win situation.
Filed Wine
Sometimes our fridge doors are way, way overworked. Milk jugs, juice cartons, water bottles. At this point, wine is a necessity we can't afford to lose. Once more, we'll think outside the box and draw upon the world of office equipment to find a creative solution to this calamity.
A simple file holder is really as far as we'll have to go. Placing it horizontally in your fridge will create some new shelf space and will give your fridge a more crisp and organized appearance.
Hanging Shoes
Piles of shoes in the hallway or at the bottom of your closet are a safety hazard, for sure. Luckily, your closet space can be better utilized to accommodate all of your wonderful belongings. Some simple, plastic, bendy clothing hangers are all you need for this hack.
Bend your clothing hangers so that their edges tilt upwards. This will create sturdy hooks for your favorite shoes, which you can then hang up in your closet and remove with ease. Honestly, we can't recommend this enough.
Hanging Make-Up Brushes
There's never enough room to keep all of your make-up brushes organized, clean, and separate from each other. Why not take some of the hangers left over from the last hack and transform them into a make-up brush holder?
Use double-sided velcro tape to stick one side of the velcro to the hanger. Then attach it to the other side and poke in your brushes. Hang the hanger over your sink for easy access, and your brushes will be kept fresh and clean forevermore.
Hats on a Hanger
By this point, you can probably guess where we're going with this. We might be repeating ourselves, but we just love hangers much too much! They're so multi-purposed! This time, for hats. Instead of a jumble of hats in an old, ratty bag, make yourself a DIY hat hanger.
Make a small incision in the hanger so that you'll be able to loop some small, plastic hangers through it. That's it, you're done! And your hats will thank you!
Hang em' by the Socks
Ok, ok, we can't resist. This is the last one, we promise! But we all know how annoying it is to lose just one sock out of the pair! Sure, for some of us wearing mismatched socks is purely aesthetic, but there's really no need. Isn't it time to grow up?
Once again, create a small incision in the hanger and loop your old clothing clippers through the base. Attach your socks to the clips and never look like a mess again.
Nail Polish Display
You don't need to be a professional cosmetician to have a fancy nail polish display. In fact, all you need is an old shoebox and a few sturdy pieces of cardboard paper, preferably all in the same color.
Fold the cardboard pieces into halves and place them inside the shoebox to form small shelves. Prop the shoebox up and arrange your nail polish collection. Beautiful, elegant, and simple!
Fridge Arranger
Plastic wrap leaves food moldy, not to mention it produces regrettable waste and pollution. Tupperware is bulky and space-consuming. Why not save space by creating your own food coverings, using old cake lids, or deconstructed water bottles made into strips?
This solution is simple and elegant, use your handmade food coverings to stack plates of food on to each other. Wash and reuse again as many times as you need. We love being both eco-friendly and put-together!
Make-Your-Own Spice Rack
It's hard to find a spice rack that actually fits in your kitchen. Spice racks are extravagant things, reserved for seasoned chefs and put-together adults. Well, no more! Anyone can have a spice rack if they follow these simple instructions.
Take a used (washed) can and two plates, one large and one smaller. Using hot or permanent glue, attach the bottom of the can to one plate and the top of the can to another. Wait for it to dry and make sure that it spins (we promise, it will). Load up your spices and never spend time rummaging for spices at the bottom of the drawer again!
A No-Trip Closet
It's not comfortable walking into a closet and being assaulted by a million broomsticks bruising your shins and tripping you when all you're trying to do is extract the laundry detergent from the corner.
Instead of fearing for your life every time you enter the broom closet, grab an old pool noodle from last summer and glue it to the wall. Cut some slits into it and you've got yourself a broom holder.
The Piling Closet
Having a tower of clothes fall onto you every time you open your closet is most definitely not ideal. Why not spare yourself the pain and invest in a few home-made shelves made of simple metal clothing rack bars?
Just because your closet didn't come with shelves doesn't mean it never will. Get creative and think outside the box, we're sure you'll find a way to organize your clothes just right.
Compartmental Colors
For any kid with a love for arts and crafts, this organizational hack is a godsend. No more looking for broken crayons under the couch, no more pawing through old schoolbags for those colored pencils. Instead, spark your little one's creativity by setting up a color-coded working station for them.
They'll be happy to have all the colors they need for their next masterpiece, and they'll definitely enjoy putting every pencil back exactly where it was. Right? Well... We can't promise anything, but at least this will look good in the pictures.
Nail Polish on Display
Nail polish is our favorite self-care treat. Applying it is truly meditative and enjoying the put-together feeling of clacking away on your computer with nice, polished nails is so very satisfying.
Your nail polish deserves a place of honor on your wall. Invest in one of these handy pockets and never waste time looking for the perfect color again.
Organize Your Jewelry
In the mornings, as you're gulping down your coffee and blow-drying your hair (at the same time!), you definitely don't have time to untangle all of your necklace chains from your bracelets or find an errant earring.
For a much calmer morning, stick some nails or adhesive clothing hooks to an empty wall in your bathroom or bedroom, and never waste another second looking for the perfect necklace to go with your outfit.
Hanging Paper Towels
This time a hanger trick for the kitchen! Paper towels can get soggy and gross if you just leave them on the counter. For a more eco-friendly option that will leave your towels fresh and dry try this.
Make an incision in any plastic clothing hanger so that the paper towel row can slide right on, Hang it on any hook in your kitchen, and make your life 5 percent easier.
Sturdy Trash
It's extremely annoying when your flatmates forget to take out the trash. It's even more annoying to discover that the trash is completely overflowing and that the garbage bag has slid into the can and underneath all of the garbage. Under the day-old congealed yogurt, potato peels, and used coffee grounds. In short, absolute grossness.
No more! Just stick an adhesive, plastic clothing hook onto the trash can (upside down!), and train your lazy roommates to always hook it up if they (ever) decide to get around to replace the trash bag.
Safe Electronics
Chargers are our lifeblood, we can't do much without them at this point. By keeping them in these binder clips you can ensure they'll stay safe, whole, and organized.
Discovering that your battery is low right before an important meeting and that your charger is nowhere to be found is never pleasant. Avoid that kind of stress and make your own charger holder in less than 5 minutes!
Keep Your Rings Safe
There's nothing more annoying than losing your ring to an extremely soapy session of dish-washing. The soap makes the ring extra slick and lets it slide right off your fingers.
No more though, because by fastening a simple coat hanger to the wall above your sink, you'll get an eye-level reminder to take off your rings before you start doing the dishes, and your jewelry will remain safe, dry, and sound.
Get Those Products Off The Floor
The laundry room is one of the quickest places to become a mess. With all of those different products to use, if you don't have shelves, you really need to get some- that's where this hack comes in handy. Most of us have crates lying around- just screw them into the wall and viola! You have quick, easy, and sturdy shelves that will keep all of your different laundry products in order.
These shelves can work in nearly any space in your home that could use a little extra organization, so don't hesitate to put those empty crates to use!
No More Messy Pods
Finding the best way to store those handy coffee pods can be a real task. This solution helps to keep your Nespresso pods organized without taking up that precious counter space. Simply slide the pods into the holder, and the metal bars will hold them in place until you're ready to slide them out and start brewing. A nice cup of coffee doesn't have to cost you a clean and organized kitchen anymore!
These simple storage devices hold more than enough pods, so you won't have anymore of those clunky boxes lying around the kitchen anymore either. Get it and thank us later!
