Charlize Theron
Every celebrity on this list has their own reasons for not wanting to have a procedure done. However, some keep those reasons to themselves whereas others like Charlize Theron have gone on record saying why they don't support procedures. Theron has said that “I think today women are very scared to celebrate themselves because then they just get labeled,” alluding to the way society views and holds up certain physical attributes.
However, that's not to say that the actress doesn't devote time to her looks at all. She's also said that she does have a skincare regime but doesn't have an issue with any lines or wrinkles she might have.
Kristen Stewart
Actress Kristen Stewart isn't old by any measure of the word, but she has come out and said that she would never even consider going under the knife. Specifically, the actress has said that “I am so freaked out by the idea of doing anything. And maybe that’s completely arrogant but I don’t want to change anything about myself. I think the women who do are losing their minds. It’s vandalism.”
With so many women choosing to have procedures done in Hollywood just for the sake of their looks, we have to say that we agree with her on this one.
Rachel Weisz
English actress Rachel Weisz pretty much summed up the problem with going under the knife when she said that having a procedure done to accentuate certain physical attributes ruins individual beauty. Of course, she said it a bit more eloquently when she said, “People who look too perfect don’t look sexy or particularly beautiful.” Weisz went on to explain that "imperfections" make us who we are and accentuate individual beauty.
After all, who would want to live in a world where everyone looks exactly the same? Not only does that sound like something out of a dystopian novel, but it'd also be just plain boring.
Emily Ratajkowski
Emily Ratajkowski has been accused many times of having work done and many times the actress has denied the rumors. It's probably because people just can't fathom that someone can look as good as Ratajkowski and still be all-natural. She has also taken issue with people spreading rumors about her looks, saying men are never made to justify how they look or express themselves. That's a valid double-standard to point out.
Some of the rumors surrounding the model and actress have involved talks of her having lip and nose jobs done, but she was quick to shut both of those rumors down.
Jennifer Lopez
Jennifer Lopez has long been lauded as one of the most beautiful women in Hollywood, so some out there might be surprised to learn that the singer claims to have never had any work done. Of course, that hasn't stopped some from insinuating that the star has had procedures done in the past, but Lopez regularly dispels these rumors and even sometimes refers people to her skincare line. Talk about a perfect advertising opportunity.
/We have to say though, it's no surprise that Lopez hasn't had any work done, it'd be hard to find a better example of individual beauty than this highly-successful star.
Olivia Wilde
Olivia Wilde is another actress who hasn't been shy about expressing what she really thinks about people who get cosmetic procedures. She's said, “I am so saddened and grossed out by young women who look like creepy, old aliens because of their new Barbie noses and lips.” That's certainly a good way of putting it and she's gone on to say that it's a shame that going under the knife is so common in Hollywood.
“There are too many young women who are cutting up their faces, and it makes me sad and they all look the same,” the actress and filmmaker has stated.
Beyoncé
If anyone was unsure of Beyoncé's position on plastic surgery, then she answered it in her song "Pretty Hurts". The song contains the lyrics, “Tryin’ to fix something but you can’t fix what you can’t see. It’s the soul that needs the surgery.” However, despite this, the star has been the focus of rumors claiming that she's had multiple procedures done in the past. And can you really blame people?
We mean, despite being a bit older now, Beyoncé still looks amazing and pretty much the same as she did when she was younger. She has denied having any work done whenever rumors start to rear their ugly heads.
Liv Tyler
Liv Tyler is no stranger to rumors involving cosmetic procedures. However, the actress has come out a couple of times and explained exactly why she's so opposed to them. She's said “I don’t want to ever have cosmetic surgery, so I want to do the best I can with what I have. I hate that look where people’s faces have just changed. It’s so creepy.” And there might be a personal reason for her decision.
Famously, her father is Steve Tyler of Aerosmith, who's had reconstructive surgery on his face after a severe accident. In addition, he's also had a lot of cosmetic work done.
Heidi Klum
It might seem like a lot of people on this only express their opposition to cosmetic procedures because of course they would. We mean, most of the people on this are absolutely stunning. It's like someone who's wealthy saying that money doesn't matter. Still, there is some wisdom to not giving in to industry pressure to alter your appearance, such as in the case of Heidi Klum.
Despite being one of the most successful models on the planet, Klum has denied ever having any work done and she's said cosmetic work "just doesn’t look pretty to me.”
Amanda Peet
Amanda Peet might have the simplest but most relatable answer on this list as to why she's never had any work done. When asked, the actress has said that she's simply scared. And we can't blame her, going under the knife for anything can be scary, much less just to have some cosmetic work done. Peet has also called cosmetic procedures invasive in the past. Honestly, we can't see any reason for Peet to go under the knife.
The actress is stunning just the way she is and should probably go with her gut in skipping the knife.
Kate Winslet
Titanic star Kate Winslet is another Hollywood actress who's made her views on cosmetic procedures known. Apart from saying outright that cosmetic work is against her morals, she's also said that “I am an actress, I don’t want to freeze the expression of my face.” That's actually a pretty solid way of putting it considering a large part of acting is conveying emotion through facial expressions. And to be honest, we really can't see any way in which going under the knife would benefit Winslet.
The actress looks just as stunning today as she did when she first appeared on the scene.
Brooke Shields
Unlike some of the other celebrities on this list, Brooke Shields has had some form of what some people might label as "cosmetic work" done on her face. The successful actress and model has had laser work, body contouring, and injectables, but maintains that she doesn't want any serious procedures done. She's said “I want laser treatment because I’m not a fan of my wrinkles, but I have to find someone with a light touch. I’m scared I’ll end up looking like the Joker.”
Shields has also said in multiple interviews that she's scared of having any type of serious work done and going under for a procedure, which makes sense.
Lady Gaga
Pop superstar Lady Gaga isn't as procedure-free as some others on this list, having gotten a number of facial injections at one point in her life. However, she has also pushed back on attempts to pressure her into having more serious procedures. She's said that before her first album came out someone tried to convince her to get a nose job, to which she responded that she loved her Italian nose.
While it's good that she didn't give into industry pressure, it's still extremely surprising that someone would even try to convince her to have a nose job. Like, how do those types of conversations even start out?
Cate Blanchett
People who have extensive work done are often only telling the world that they're insecure about certain physical aspects of themselves. At least, that's how actress Cate Blanchett sees it. Look at a man or a woman in their 50s and all I see when they have brushed their years away with surgery is self-obsession and fear. That’s not particularly attractive,” she's said when asked about the subject.
And honestly, she's right. It's much better to just wear physical imperfections or wrinkles as badges of honor. It produces an air of confidence that cosmetic work just destroys.
Drew Barrymore
Actress and comedian Drew Barrymore probably has one of the best responses on this list when it comes to her attitudes towards cosmetic procedures. Speaking about Hollywood, she's said “everybody’s starting to look a little waxy lately.” Of course, that's a dig at those who choose to have work done and end up looking like wax figurines afterward. Barrymore has also stated that growing old shouldn't be something to be ashamed of.
However, she saved one of her worst condemnations for an interview with Glamour, in which she compared having plastic surgery to doing heroin. The two are both very slippery slopes she explained and she predicted that if she ever tried to get work done that she would quickly become addicted and end up like others in Hollywood.
Meryl Streep
Acclaimed actress Meryl Streep is known just as much for her early work as she is for the work she does now. And she attributes at lea part of that to her being able to take more nuanced roles than when she was younger. She's said that she's no longer typecast as the beautiful leading lady and that she really enjoys being able to explore different characters now that she's older.
Streep has also compared seeing people who've had a lot of work done to talking to people who are wearing a veil. And it's kind of true since you're not really staring at someone's real face.
Kate Beckinsale
Some stars on this list are pretty diplomatic when it comes to explaining their reasoning for not having work done. It makes sense because they likely have friends who have had work done. However, Kate Beckinsale is not one of those people and hasn't held back when asked about cosmetic procedures. She's said, “I much prefer how my mother looks to the people I see here (in Los Angeles) with wind-tunnel face.”
The actress has also said that it scares her to think her face could look paralyzed and she doesn't enjoy it when people claim that she's had work done.
Lauren Hutton
Lauren Hutton is an extremely successful model and actress who's had run-ins with people trying to get her to have procedures all of her life. However, she's always maintained that she wouldn't get anything done that would alter her physical appearance, and that includes having a procedure done to close the gap in her front teeth. It seems to have worked for her as she is known for landing some of the largest contracts in the history of modeling.
If there's still any doubt, Hutton is also known for her astonishing 40 separate appearances on the cover of Vogue magazine, the most out of any celebrity. That said, Hutton has talked a lot about having to overcome other obstacles in the modeling industry during a time when it was much less accommodating than it is today such as issues with her age and crossed eyes.
Emma Thompson
Emma Thompson is a British actress who, along with Rachel Weisz and Kate Winslet, are known for their staunch opposition to cosmetic procedures. In fact, Thompson has said that “It’s not a normal thing to do, and the culture that we’ve created says it’s normal. Why do people ask persons to cut them open and put things into their body?” And we have to say that we think she is spot on in this aspect.
We mean, surgery is already scary enough but doing it just for cosmetic reasons doesn't seem worth it. Thompson has also blamed Hollywood for its unrealistic beauty standards, especially those directed toward women.
Julia Roberts
For not being a comedian, actress Julia Roberts had a pretty hilarious response to being asked why she hasn't had work done. Roberts said that she'd rather her children be able to tell when she's angry or happy just by looking at her facial expression. And like many other women on this list, she's railed against traditional beauty standards in Hollywood and said that it's actually risky to go the all-natural route.
“It’s unfortunate that we live in such a panicked, dysmorphic society where women don’t even give themselves a chance to see what they’ll look like as an older person,” Roberts has said.
Halle Berry
When asked about her views on cosmetic surgery, Halle Berry has said that she thinks the whole thing is a slippery slope that can lead to people having too much work done. It's not hard to see why she might feel that way when looking at Hollywood and some of the people there who've had too much work done. And it often only starts with someone getting a simple procedure.
"I just want to always look like myself, even if that’s an older version of myself,” Berry has said. However, when you look as stunning as Halle freaking Berry, who wouldn't want to always look theirselves?
Salma Hayek
Salma Hayek is not a fan of getting work done. That might not come as a surprise to some considering; well, it's Salma Hayek and she would never have a reason to have work done. But, she has actually made really good points about trying to fight aging, saying “Plastic surgery is like the uniform of a generation. And it’s not necessarily beautiful. It’s not wrinkled-looking, but it’s not beautiful.”
Of course, that's easy for Hayek to say, considering she's now 55 years old and doesn't look a day over 30. Still, she has a pretty good point when it comes to cosmetic work not necessarily being beautiful.
Javier Bardem
Javier Bardem is one of the few men on this, but it should be noted that having procedures done, even for men, in Hollywood is not uncommon. Bardem is on this list because despite not liking his nose, the actor has never sought to have a nose job. His nose was broken in a fight once, which is why he probably says he isn't happy with the way it looks.
Bardem is known for taking his roles very seriously and has said that things like his voice and his nose don't come into play whenever he has a role and is working.
Michelle Pfeiffer
For some, it feels as if having cosmetic work done is just another way people try to cheat aging and the inescapable passage of time. Sorry for getting slightly deep there, but it's true and actress Michelle Pfeiffer apparently thinks so, too. She's stated, "All the plastic surgery in the world can’t stop you from getting older," which truly are some words of wisdom to live by.
She has also expressed her opinion that she doesn't think men really want women who look like they've had work done, calling Hollywood's unrealistic standards "grotesque" and some of the women who adhere to them "bony".
Kevin Costner
Actor Kevin Costner is one of those celebrities who've made it very clear when it comes to his thoughts on cosmetic work. Costner has stated, “I am never going for a hairpiece, dye, or nips and tucks. You will always have to take me as you find me.” That's not all that uncommon for a male start to say though, given that men are usually allowed to age, wrinkles and all, in Hollywood.
Still, it's not uncommon for leading Hollywood actors to have some kind of work done and Costner seems to want no part in getting any kind of work done.
Amy Poehler
Amy Poehler is no fan of having cosmetic work done and it's because she sees it as a way of trying to cheat aging. The comedian and actress even included a poem in her book that read, "I have no idea if you are angry or sad since you got fillers. Hey, shooting poison in your face does not keep you from turning 50.” It doesn't get much more clear-cut than that.
However, that doesn't mean that she hasn't been pressured to have work done like many other women in Hollywood. Once, her boss offered to pay for her to have fillers, to which she accepted. She explained that things like that are just the way the industry is and she wishes it would change.
Tina Fey
While you might expect comedian and actress Tina Fey to be 100% against any kind of cosmetic procedure, that isn't necessarily the case. Fey is reportedly a fan of lasers and says that she has no fear of them. However, she's also said that anything more serious than that just isn't for her, adding that people who get too much cosmetic work look like they have candles in their faces because of how shiny they look.
That said, there has been plenty of speculation over the years over whether Fey has actually had more procedures done or not, despite her being a vocal critic of cosmetic procedures.
Jodie Foster
We haven't seen very many interviews involving acclaimed actress Jodie Foster, but if we were to judge from her responses to being asked about plastic surgery, we'd say she's probably pretty hilarious. Foster has said that “As time goes on, I will play characters who get older: I don’t want to be some botoxed weirdo.” She added that she'd rather someone point out her bad nose than her bad nose job.
Honestly, that makes a lot of sense. It's much worse to be known for having botched, or too much, work done than for having natural "imperfections".
Sigourney Weaver
As we age, our appearances change and that's just a fact of life. Some might even say that our faces become much more individual and interesting as we age than when we were younger. At least, that's what actress Sigourney Weaver would say. “My face is my canvas and I think it’s much more interesting now than it ever was,” Weaver has said. And she makes a good point.
Whether you're talking about simple wrinkles or a broken nose you got from a bar fight, the imperfections and lines on our faces do in fact tell stories about who we are and where we've been. As some others on this list have stated, growing older should be looked at as a blessing and not a curse to hide away.
Julianne Moore
If there's one recurring theme on this list, it's that going under the knife can impair your ability to convey emotion through your facial expressions. And that's not good if you're an actor or actress. Julianne Moore concurs and has said that she doesn't need her face to be "frozen" in time. Instead, she wants to continue her very successful career as an actress and we can't blame her.
With that said, she's also stated that she isn't a fan of getting older but realizes that it's just a part of life, which is understandable considering that's probably how just about everyone feels.
Diane Keaton
When it comes to just plain practicable reasons for not going under the knife, actress Diane Keaton probably has the best reason for not doing so. During an interview with People magazine, she reportedly stated that “if the hands don’t match the face it’s a little weird. My hands are the hands of the age I am. They’ve been through a lot and they look like it!” And that totally makes sense, i
It'd look weird if someone had an artificially younger-looking face, while the rest of their body retained the same wrinkles and marks as before.
Rachel Hunter
New Zealand model and actress Rachel Hunter has actually hosted shows on the subject of cosmetic procedures. And she's said that those projects actually influenced her not to get any work done after considering it. “I want to like who looks back at me in the mirror. If I can be happy and excited and a full human being, that’s a good thing,” she said after being asked about her views on the subject.
Unfortunately, that doesn't mean that people haven't tried to pressure Hunter into getting work done before, which she said influenced her initial interest in going under the knife before changing her mind.
Juliette Binoche
Juliette Binoche is an acclaimed French actress known for a number of films as well as her good looks. So, it shouldn't come as much of a surprise that Binoche hasn't had any work done before. She's said that women who do get work done look "scared" to her and that “When you look at Rembrandt’s self-portraits (…) he has his life history on his face. Can you imagine Rembrandt with a facelift? No.”
That sounds like pretty sound reasoning to us. After all, your face does tell the story of your life and it's not just painters who are aware of this. Just read Oscar Wilde's The Picture of Dorian Gray.
Connie Britton
Modern science is pretty amazing if you think about it. Sure, we still can't turn back the aging process, but we can slow it down. We mean, average lifespans used to be in the 30s, and now look at us. Actress Connie Britton says if you're not looking to go under the knife, then you still have options including simply taking care of your skin, which is now easier than ever. Britton even mentions how something we take for granted today: skincare products that protect from the sun, seemed like genius moves when they first came out.
It doesn't have to be complicated either she has said. One of the most important and effective things you can do is to use skincare products with sun protection, as the sun is a leading cause of skin damage.
Judi Dench
Judi Dench is a pretty famous actress that we're sure anyone reading this has seen in at least one film. However, she's also English and pretty much gave the most English answer possible when asked about getting work done. She said, “I’ve considered it, but I’m too old now. Every time I go to America, I wonder if there is some process where it could all be sucked out and I could be out of there in time for dinner.”
An answer like that doesn't only show wisdom and confidence, but it also shows that Dench is still as stunning as ever both mentally and physically.
Laura Linney
Actress Laura Linney made a really good point when she was asked about her view on having work done. Linney compared having work done on your face to stripping yourself of the qualities that make you who you are. That's actually a pretty scary thought. Who would want to wake up one day and look in the mirror only to appear as someone totally different from who you really are?
"I don’t like what I see in the mirror sometimes. Of course, you look at yourself and you’re, like, ‘Good Lord, what’s happening?’ But, it’s just against my nature to put plastic in my face,” she added. That last bit about plastic is pretty funny until you realize that it's absolutely true.
Kathleen Turner
Actress Kathleen Turner has always been drop-dead gorgeous throughout her career, so we were kind of surprised when we learned that she's actually been pressured to have work done. She's said that another woman she knew once advised her to get work done before she turned 40, otherwise it'd be too late. Wisely, she responded that it was okay with her if she didn't have any work done because she thought that she was aging gracefully. And we have to agree.
She's also taken a couple of digs at Cher, saying that she doesn't want to get to the same point as the singer, where she can't even move her face.
Patti Smith
Patti Smith is a pretty influential American punk rock singer, which should tell you all you need to know about her views on having cosmetic work done. “We’re in a place where people are so concerned with their appearance that young people are getting plastic surgery. And it’s just rampant…almost a disease," she's said. Smith added that the only way to truly keep yourself young is by working on your inner self.
That might sound a bit corny, but honestly, she's right. You can't cheat time and the only way to truly stay young is to feel young on the inside by working on yourself.
Pink
Despite not being a huge fan of growing older, (who is really?) singer Pink has said that she's not really with having work done to try and combat it. She once penned a letter to herself about how it's a beautiful thing that your nose is the same one that you see on your son or daughter and that changing something like that would be a shame. She added that it's also really weird seeing someone, whose face doesn't move.
In the letter, which she posted to Twitter, she also wrote some funny bits about the choices we make when we're younger: "and your face wrinkles where you laugh… and yeah you idiot… u smoked.” It really is worth checking out in its entirety.
Audrey Hepburn
When talking about beauty and Hollywood, it doesn't get much more iconic than Audrey Hepburn. However, you probably didn't know that Hepburn not only wasn't a fan of cosmetic work but actively fought against Hollywood beauty standards. For example, she used to tell photographers not to alter her images to get rid of her wrinkles. In her mind, her wrinkles were a badge of honor that she wore proudly.
She even once told a photographer not to touch her wrinkles because "I earned every single one of them." Close family members have described her attitude towards modern beauty standards in a similar vein.
